Four Civil Engineering (CE) students made their way to victory after winning two events in the recently concluded Transportation Summit 2017 at the Mapua Institute of Technology, Intramuros, Manila on March 2-4.

In the debate category, Jefferson Wais, BS CE 5, who represented the opposition side together with his teammates, was adjudged first runner-up, with the argument, “Should the congress grant the Duterte administration’s request for emergency powers to mitigate the worsening traffic condition in Mega Manila? Yes or No”

Wais was the only student contestant outside Metro Manila to qualify in the final round of the said event.

Meanwhile, BS CE 5 students Jonathan Masima, Joel Blaza, and Donna Mae Torrecampo, emerged as 3rd runners-up in the Transportation Summit Quiz Show which covered topics on highway engineering, railroads, surveying, port and harbor engineering and among others.

Lester John Santos, CE president, said that despite the hullabaloos that happened on their way to the event, his co-CE students still performed well.

“Natutuwa ako [sa mga awards] kasi kahit na nasiraan kami habang papunta sa event, blessed pa rin kasi nanalo kami,” Santos said.

Engr. Jyrus Jyles Cadiente, on the other hand, served as the team’s coach.

Other universities that participated in the Transpo Summit are as follows: Isabela State University – Ilagan and Echague Campus, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, New Era University, National University, Technical Institute of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, and Lyceum of the Philippines.#
