NVSU, CHEDRO2 discuss collaborative activities with AFSJ in Japan
Tokyo, Japan – August 19, 2024 – In their first official engagement following their arrival in Japan, the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) delegation, headed by the University President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr., together with CHEDRO2 Regional Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, met with the representatives of the Association of Filipino Students in Japan (AFSJ) in Nakano, Tokyo and discussed scholarship programs in Japan.
Present in the meeting were other NVSU officials: Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Cristina R. Salvosa; Director for CRRDC Dr. Elbert A. Sana; Director for R&D Dr. Jessie Pascual P. Bitog; and Director for International Affairs Atty. Regine Karla G. Tabas. They were joined by AFSJ representatives Vince Neil Fuertes, Vice President for Social and Cultural Affairs and a MEXT scholar at the University of Tokyo, and Christian Ezekiel Fajardo, Vice President for Student Welfare and a MEXT scholar at the International Christian University (ICU).
The meeting resulted in several important agreements aimed at fostering collaboration between NVSU and AFSJ. A major plan was to organize a joint research colloquium in early 2025, focusing on various fields such as the sciences, humanities, and social sciences. This event would be co-hosted by AFSJ and NVSU, with support from CHED Regional Office 2.
Additionally, both NVSU and AFSJ committed to promoting scholarship opportunities for studying in Japan by organizing "kwentuhan" sessions. These sessions would focus on sharing insights and personal experiences about the benefits of studying abroad, as well as providing guidance on the application process. The discussions also highlighted the importance of connecting NVSU’s graduating students with Japanese language education programs and internship opportunities to enhance their employment prospects in Japan. Furthermore, the delegation discussed plans to conduct a series of business communication sessions with the NVSU Sabatan Technohub to improve professional skills and expand networking opportunities.
This meeting marked a significant step in strengthening ties between NVSU and Filipino students in Japan, paving the way for future academic and professional collaborations.
