NVSU faculty attends international course on Tropical Agricultural Environment

Ms. Delony A. Ugali, faculty member from the College of Agriculture, is another grantee of the Leveling-Up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources (LevelUPHEI AFAR) project of SEARCA funded by CHED that attended the international summer course program “Tropical Agricultural Environment Toward Regional Sustainability,” held at Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) or Bogor Agricultural University, Bogor, Indonesia on September 2-9.

 Together with 46 participants from Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Pakistan and Ghana, the delegates took part in the plenary lectures, poster presentation, and group discussions and were expected to determine issues related to regional sustainability of agricultural practices and to formulate solutions to respective issues raised such as technological implementation, research and development, organization and management, financial, government policy aspect, and human resources.

 “Through education, access to resources, stewardship of the environment, diversification, empowerment of communities, policy support, innovation and collaboration, agricultural landscapes can navigate their way to a more sustainable, more equitable, and more prosperous future,” stated Ugali.

 This summer course also involved field practices and technical tours which gave the delegates the chance to visit various places in Indonesia, such as Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng, Sukhamantri, Agatho Organic Farm, Tea and Coffee Plantation, Telaga Saat and Jonggol Animal Husbandry Research and Education Unit for in-depth observation and assessment of their agricultural practices.
