Usec. Mabborang Commends STRAND Scholars' Role in Fueling National Innovation: Highlights Conference Success and Scholars' Pivotal Contributions to Science, Technology, and Innovation
The recently concluded DOST STRAND Scholars Conference 2023, under the theme "STRAND CONNECT: Uniting Scholars for S&T Innovation," showcased the significant potential of the STRAND Program and the pivotal role played by STRAND Scholars in advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, the Undersecretary for Regional Operations at the Department of Science and Technology, served as the guest speaker during the event held on December 12, 2023, at the Function Room of the New Administration Building of the university.
The conference provided a platform for current scholars to share their progress and experiences, fostering collaboration and mentorship between students, faculty members, and alumni. Attendees included scholars and their advisers, as well as Deans and Graduate School Department Chairpersons from colleges implementing the STRAND Program. The event also welcomed representatives from DOST-SEI and university officials.
Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale, Jr., in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of monitoring the professional progress of graduate and alumni DOST STRAND scholars. He highlighted the broader impacts of the STRAND scholarship program, which was implemented across various university colleges in 2017. Dr. Dumale stressed the significance of systematically validating the advancements made by current scholars, addressing any issues they may encounter and recognizing their cumulative achievements that contribute to timely degree completion.
Furthermore, Dr. Dumale commended the alumni who have secured employment through the STRAND scholarship program, showcasing the diverse opportunities available for DOST STRAND scholars. He also reiterated the program's policies and rules.
Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, in his keynote speech, acknowledged the substantial potential of the STRAND Program and emphasized the scholars' role in facilitating widespread access and enjoyment of its benefits among the general public. He highlighted their contribution to advancing STI initiatives within the DOST and the nation. Engr.
