NVSU advances global-local partnership with SOCODEVI, DA through Agsama Kape Launch
Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), led by University President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr., joined key national and international partners in the official launch of the Agsama Kape Sustainable Coffee Value Chain Project on March 25, 2026, at the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera Administrative Region in Baguio City.
The launching program gathered high-level officials and development partners, reflecting a strong and unified commitment to advancing the Philippine coffee industry.
Key messages were delivered by Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero, SOCODEVI Director of International Programs François Dionne, and representatives from the Government of Canada, reaffirming continued support for sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.
The Agsama Kape Project aims to strengthen the coffee value chain—from production to market—by supporting farmer organizations, enhancing post-harvest systems, and improving market access.
The initiative promotes agroforestry-based practices while ensuring the active participation of Indigenous communities and women coffee growers.
In his message, Dr. Dumale conveyed his commitment to supporting the initiative and encouraged stakeholders to continue investing in the agriculture sector.
He emphasized the importance of inculcating a deeper appreciation for agriculture, drawing from his own background as a graduate of the field, and highlighting its role in driving sustainable development and community transformation.
He also underscored the critical role of the academe, particularly State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), in initiatives such as Agsama Kape—especially in providing technical assistance, research support, and capability-building programs for farmers and local communities.
As a partner institution, NVSU continues to strengthen its role in bridging academe, industry, and communities through research, extension, and international collaboration. The University reaffirms its commitment to advancing inclusive, community-driven initiatives that position Nueva Vizcaya as a key contributor to a sustainable and globally competitive coffee industry.
