NVSU Hosts Balik Scientist Program for the first time, welcomes Prof. Mendoza
Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) marked a historic milestone as it hosted the Balik Scientist Program (BSP) for the first time, welcoming Professor Emeritus Dr. Guillermo A. Mendoza, as its guest scientist through a formal welcome program held at the Function Room, New Administration Building, today.
Prof. Mendoza, a distinguished expert from the University of Illinois, United States of America (USA), will collaborate with NVSU faculty and students, sharing his knowledge and research expertise to strengthen the university’s academic and research initiatives.
The Balik Scientist Program, spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), aims to encourage Filipino scientists abroad to return and contribute to the country’s scientific and technological advancement.
University officials, faculty, and students, led by University President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr. received Prof. Mendoza, expressing optimism for the collaborations and breakthroughs that his presence will bring to NVSU.
In his message, President Dumale emphasized the significance of Prof. Mendoza’s presence in the university’s research landscape.
“Our aim is to benefit from the expertise of Prof. Mendoza and help us identify our strengths and harness that still unexploited strength in our human resource to be able to add to the university’s reputation. We also want to engage with proposals that he will help craft for faculty research,” President Dumale stated.
He further highlighted the university’s optimism about the impact of the BSP program.
“We are very positive that with the presence of our Balik- Scientist, we are going to enrich our R&D capability. Everything starts with a dream, and we are going to dream on with you. We have realized the dream of bringing you here, and thanks to PCAARRD for their approval, that dream came true. Now, let’s have another dream of winning together a brighter future,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, in his response, Prof. Mendoza highlighted the objectives of the Balik Scientist Program and his plans for NVSU’s academic and research development.
“The Balik Scientist Program is designed to encourage Filipino scientists working abroad to come back and work alongside colleagues in SUCs in the Philippines to fast-track the development of science and technology. By harnessing this partnership, we can accelerate progress in research and innovation,” Prof. Mendoza explained.
The hosting of the Balik Scientist Program at NVSU marks a new chapter in the institution’s pursuit of research and development breakthroughs, paving the way for future collaborations and scientific achievements.
