NVSU sweeps back-to-back Platinum Award in ITSO Summit
Demonstrating excellence in innovation, intellectual property protection, and the real-world application of technology, Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), through its Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM), secured a back-to-back victory after being conferred the Platinum Award during the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) Presidents' Summit and General Assembly held in Iloilo City on March 25.
Carrying the theme “15 Years of Strengthening the Philippine TISCS: Innovation and Creativity Toward Sustainable Technology Transfer,” the summit recognized ITSOs across the country for their outstanding contributions to innovation, intellectual property (IP) generation, and technology transfer.
The Platinum Award, the highest distinction granted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), is bestowed upon top-performing ITSOs that demonstrate excellence in patent generation, IP commercialization, capacity-building initiatives, and active participation in the national innovation ecosystem.
Just like in 2025, Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) once again stands as the lone State University and College (SUC) in the Cagayan Valley region to receive this prestigious recognition.
In terms of IP generation and protection, the university recorded significant outputs, filing 15 copyrights, three utility models, and three industrial designs.
It also produced 33 prior art search reports and successfully filed 10 patents, reflecting its growing research and innovation portfolio.
Beyond filings, NVSU demonstrated its commitment to translating innovation into tangible impact.
In 2025, the university completed one Freedom to Operate (FTO) report and successfully commercialized one technology—both centered on its cacao machine innovation.
In recognition of its remarkable accomplishments, NVSU was also awarded a Special Citation for fulfilling the requirements by filing at least 10 patent applications.
Additionally, the following individuals were given a Certificate of Commendation for their outstanding contributions to the university’s IP and technology initiatives: Dr. Sonny P. Aquino, Mr. Eduard P. Bragado, Mr. Emerson SKye E. Vidad, Ms. Flormelyn D. Tumenez, Dr. Jenaida B. Aquino, Engr. Laymar P. Umhao, Engr. Michael D. Aliaga, Ms. Adhelyn Jane Q. Obtial and Mr. Ramon P. Bangao Jr.
The back-to-back Platinum recognition, along with the special citation and certificates of commendation, affirms NVSU’s continued leadership in innovation and technology transfer, reinforcing its vital role in strengthening the country’s intellectual property ecosystem and advancing sustainable development through research-driven solutions.
