Earlier today, a delegation led by Dr. Wilfredo Dumale, Jr., President, Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), visited Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA). With him were Atty. Regine Karla Tabas, Executive Assistant; Dr. Cristina Salvosa, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Dr. Jonar Yago, Vice President for Research, Extension & Training; and Ms. Alma Valdez, Budget Chief, all of NVSU.

They were briefed on the Center’s mandate and core programs, focusing on its scholarship programs, publications, and annual photo contest.

Dr. Dumale thanked the Center for involving them in its capacity-building initiatives. He also expressed interest in the SEARCA-established Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC).

After the meeting, the delegates were toured in the SEARCA Hub for Agriculture and Rural Innovation for the Next Generation (SHARING).

NVSU participated in the LevelUPHEI AFAR project, funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), which focuses on the capacity development of faculty/staff members of Philippine higher education institutions in the areas of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and agricultural engineering.

Moreover, NVSU’s Automated Irrigation and Nutrient Management (AIRIN) system bagged the top prize in the Innovation Olympics 2.0 (IO 2.0), a nationwide Agri-hackathon for young Filipinos, a collaboration of SEARCA, East-West Seed, Sensient Colors LLC, and the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
