Executive Summary

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) has seven (7) Bachelor’s Degrees, six (6) Master’s Degrees and five (5) Doctoral Degrees. The seven bachelor’s degrees include Bachelor of Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Culture and Arts Education, Early Childhood Education, Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, and Technology Livelihood Education. The Masters programs are: Master of Education major in Educational Administration, Language, Reading and Numeracy and Science Education, Master of Arts in Teaching major in English and Filipino and Master of Arts in Education major in MAPEH while the doctoral program include, Doctor of Philosophy in Multilingual Education, Science Education and Doctor of Education major in Educational Management.

The college is becoming stronger in terms of student population registering the biggest student population among the colleges in the University. For the 1st semester of the School Year 2020-2021 the college has 1,321 number of enrolees for undergraduate programs and 207 for graduate programs with the total enrolment of 1,528. For the 2nd semester of the School Year 2020-2021 the college has 1,140 number of enrolees for undergraduate programs and 223 for graduate programs with the total enrolment of 1,363. For the 1st semester of the School Year 2021-2022 the college has 1,630 number of enrolees for undergraduate programs and 216 for graduate programs with the total enrolment of 1,846.

In terms faculty development, all faculty members were given a chance to attend seminars, trainings, workshops and research for on Official Business. Scholarships are also given to faculty members who plan to pursue their master’s and doctoral degrees on Official Time. During Charter Anniversary, awards and incentives are also given to faculty members who have shown exceptional performance in academic and non-academic activities in national and international levels.

The College is recognized by CHED as DHEI for specialized Graduate Programs, four (4) scholars for PhD Science Education and (6) Masters of Arts in Education (MAPEH)/Master of Education (General Science).

100% of the 7 undergraduate programs were content noted by CHED and 4 of the programs were issued Certificate of Program Compliance or COPC. On the other hand, all the Graduate Programs were content noted by CHED Region 02, evaluated by Regional Quality Assurance Team or RQUAT Region 02, and revised by a team from the CHED Central Office. Upon compliance of the team’s recommendation, the COPC will be issued. The graduate program of the college is well supported by a poll of high calibered professors from the different colleges of the university, and 3 brilliant visiting professors.

This college has been continuously spreading the good news as regards career development of students and teachers and supporting Its clientele through giving opportunities for every individual to be exposed not only in academics but also in other activities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. It will always be a sturdy leg of NVSU’s mission, vision and goals.

Brief History and Background

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) became a separate college in 1979 when the Nueva Vizcaya State University was still Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology (NVSIT). Prior to its operation as a separate college, the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education (BSAEd) was offered in 1973 that gave forth to the first graduates in 1977; and, the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Extension (BSAExt) and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) were offered in 1976. In 1985, the college commenced the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEEd) which gave way to its new nomenclature, Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) in 1994. With education in demand, the CTE offered Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) in 1999; Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) in 2013; and Bachelor of Technical Teacher Education (BTTE) in 2015. Since its operation, CTE has been producing graduates who have shown exemplary performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) with several students find top spots in the roster of regional performing examinees.

With the good performance in pre-service education and with its aspiration to enrich teaching skills of teachers the CTE absorbed from the former Graduate School six (6) graduate programs that were verticalized in 2014. The programs were as follows: Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education (Ph.D. Sci. Ed) specializing in General Science, Biological Science and Physical Science; Doctor of Philosophy in Multilingual Education (Ph. D-MLE); Doctor of Education in Educational Management (Ed. D. EM); Master of Arts in Education (MAED); Master of Education (MEd); and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).

The college is recognized by CHED as Delivering Higher Education Institution (DHEI) in the country for CHED and DOST scholarships. Currently, the college is maintaining six (6) departments: The Graduate School Program, Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, Physical Education/Culture and Arts Education, and Technology & Livelihood Education with a total enrollment ranging from 1,100 to 1,400 per semester. With the collaboration of 48 committed core faculty members, 2 Emergency Instructors, 20 affiliate faculty from other colleges of the university and 5 visiting professors from UP Baguio. The College of Teacher Education remains true to its oath of making learning a rewarding experience and preparing students to become active leaders, excellent scholars, and valuable professionals. It is worthy to note that the College has produced six accredited full-fledged professors and an Inventor. Moreover, six graduate programs were once again undergo its Accreditation Survey Visit with its partner agency, Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges & Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) through a virtual accreditation from Aug. 30-Sept. 3, 2021. During this Accreditation activity, schedules of online interviews commenced right after the creation of the group chats in each graduate program of the college. The five-day accreditation visit followed activities just like physical accreditation, such as documents review and validation, classroom observation, interviews with key officials, stakeholder's conference and campus tour but this time, these will be done virtually in different platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. The sharing of the over-all impressions was done during the Closing Program that was held on Sept. 3, 2021 at NVSU Mini-Library, Bayombong Campus.

All of the undergraduate programs were issued Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) by CHED Region 02. In 2018, the BEED program was rank 14th out 1457 as performing TEIs in the country by a national poll survey.

The college is housed in two two-storey buildings equipped with smart boards, televisions, laboratory rooms and shops such as woodworking, electronic, drafting, automotive, welding and fabrication and home economics. It also maintains two centers: the CHED accredited LET Review Center and the Dr. Salvador Blanza Fitness Center.
