CAS Mentors Present Papers on Bugkalot Culture at LLICON 2024

Two faculty researchers from the College of Arts and Sciences participated and presented their ongoing research papers at the International Conference on Language and Literature (LLICON), held from October 2-5, 2024, at Catanduanes State University, Virac, Catanduanes.

The conference, themed "Valuing Cultural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity in a Future-Ready Landscape in Language and Literature," gathered students, faculty researchers, linguists, academicians, and practitioners from both private and public institutions.

Mr. Nathaniel Aliguyon presented his paper titled "Documenting the Oral Traditions and Communal Practices of Bugkalot of Northern Luzon, Philippines," while Dr. Merlie Binay-an shared her paper, "Probe on Bugkalot Language's Fluid Transformation: A Revitalization Initiative."

These component studies form part of their broader project, "Tawid ti Nueva Vizcaya: Strengthening the NVSU Tan-awan Center," which has been approved and funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) International Affairs Services (CHED IAS).

The four-day conference was comprised of a series of plenary talks from invited national and international resource speakers, inspirational messages from key school and LLICON officials, cultural performances or presentations, open forum and panel discussions, and parallel paper presentations in different categories.
