Dr. Austria Attends Workshop on Clinical and Laboratory Diagnosis of Emerging Fungal Infections in Malaysia
Dr. Reden Austria, a faculty of Nueva Vizcaya State University – College of Veterinary Medicine, joined the workshop on the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnosis of Emerging Fungal Infections This event was held at the Institute of Medical Research (IMR) – Institute of National Health in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia last December 2-6, 2024.
The workshop, organized by the SEAMEO TROPMED Network Malaysia in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Philippines, gathered scientists, clinicians, and researchers across the Philippines to address the growing threat of emerging fungal infections.
The program highlighted the need for more efficient laboratory techniques, including molecular diagnostics, to quickly identify these infections which are often difficult to diagnose. Participants also engaged in hands-on demonstrations of advanced diagnostic tools and technologies, aimed at improving detection in clinical laboratories.
During the closing ceremony, all participants were awarded a certificate by Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, the Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education, and Dr. Ami Fazlin binti Syed Mohamed, the Director of SEAMEO TropMed Malaysia.
The TROPMED Malaysia is one of the research institutions under National Institute of Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia and has the vision of being a world-renowned institution for biomedical research. Through initiatives like this workshop, it strengthens collaboration between regional and international stakeholders in public health and medical research.
