From Behind the Lens to Center Stage

For Dan Aldrich E. Galsim, his journey at Nueva Vizcaya State University was more than earning a degree in Computer Engineering—it was a story of growth, resilience, and self-discovery. Once a reserved student during his elementary and high school years, he gradually learned to step beyond his comfort zone, embrace new experiences, and become more independent throughout his stay in the university.

Like many engineering students, Dan faced demanding subjects, tight deadlines, and academic challenges. Despite these hurdles, he remained committed to completing his degree, drawing strength from his family's unwavering support. Living away from home also taught him valuable lessons in responsibility and self-reliance, helping shape him into a more capable and confident individual.

Beyond academics, Dan devoted much of his college life to extracurricular involvement. Throughout his years at NVSU, he served as a member of The University Gazette, where he pursued his passion for drawing and expanded his skills in photojournalism. What began as a creative outlet eventually became an avenue for leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.

His commitment to service also extended to the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines–Student Edition (ICpEP-SE), where he served as the former Head of the Promotion Committee. Tasked with event documentation and social media management, he played a key role in promoting student activities while developing valuable skills in communication, organization, and leadership.

Balancing academics with organizational responsibilities was not always easy. Competitions, trainings, and university events often required him to catch up on missed lessons, quizzes, and projects. Yet with determination, support from classmates, and countless late-night study sessions, he successfully navigated both his academic and extracurricular commitments, proving that passion and perseverance can go hand in hand.

Looking back, Dan considers NVSU the foundation of many of his achievements, friendships, and life-changing experiences. As he joins the ranks of graduates, he leaves a message for aspiring student leaders: “Consider every opportunity given as the last one, and you'll be surprised on how far your shaky hands and voice will take you.”
