Fulbright Roadshow at Nueva Vizcaya State University: Inspiring Opportunities for Filipino Scholars

The Fulbright Roadshow, held on October 18, 2023, at NVSU Training Center-Bambang Campus, brought together aspiring Filipino scholars at Nueva Vizcaya State University. The event commenced with a heartfelt invocation led by Ms. Abigail Faith C. Chinaman, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem and Vizcaya Hymn. Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr., University President and a Fulbright-Philippine Agriculture Scholarship Program Alumnus, warmly welcomed the attendees and shared his personal Fulbright journey.

In his address, Dr. Dumale encouraged everyone to embrace opportunities for growth and personal development. He emphasized the importance of exploring horizons and not settling for less. Quoting, "Our horizons are now borderless, we are working in a borderless institution. Find every opportunity for you to grow personally, and morally. Take every opportunity to learn and develop. Empower yourselves, do not settle for less because there is so much more out there for you to explore."

Atty. Regine Karla G. Tabas, Director for International Affairs, introduced the distinguished guests from Fulbright Philippines, Ms. Milagros R. Tan, the Senior Program Officer of the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), and Mr. Justin Dominique Rupido, the Program Assistant of PAEF.

Ms. Milagros R. Tan took the stage to present and discuss the various Fulbright programs available to Filipino scholars. These programs encompassed a wide range of opportunities, including the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for graduate studies in the United States, the Fulbright Advanced Research Visiting Scholar Program for short-term research opportunities, the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers (Fulbright DAI), the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global Upgrad) for one-semester exchange programs for college students, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for ten months of non-degree academic study and related professional experiences in the United States, the Fulbright U.S.–ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program offering scholarships for university faculty, government officials, and professionals from the private sector, think tanks, and NGOs in the ASEAN Member States, and the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program providing opportunities for English-language teachers to work as Filipino-language teaching assistants at a U.S. university for one academic year.

In the afternoon, the roadshow continued with a Fulbright application workshop, providing valuable insights into the application process. Participants actively engaged in an open forum, raising questions and concerns, which were addressed by the knowledgeable panel.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Jonar I. Yago, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, who is also a Fulbright-Philippine Agriculture Scholarship Program Alumnus.

Maraming salamat, Fulbright Philippines, for inspiring opportunities and fostering the pursuit of knowledge among Filipino scholars!
