NVSU faculty participates International Eco-DRR and CCA Course in Indonesia
Delegates from both Philippines and Indonesia – one of the 23 is from the College of Agriculture of Nueva Vizcaya State University, Assistant Professor Daisybelle Pilas-Banida, joined the summer course on Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (Eco-DRR and CCA) at the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 21-26 August 2023, intended to bolster efforts in field and data management, and climate change mitigation and resiliency through an ecosystem approach.
This course was conducted under the CHED-funded Levelling-Up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources (LevelUPHEI AFAR) Project with SEARCA. According to Banida, the field trip sessions and observations at the Ancient Volcano Park Nglanggeran, Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park, Mount Merapi Museum and Pentingsari Tourism Village allowed them to have a worthwhile cultural experience in Yogyakarta which promotes and institutionalizes ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction to maintain sustainability. Furthermore, a thorough theoretical framework and practical tools for understanding the linkage between ecosystems and disaster occurrences are provided for the participants.
Banida is awarded as “Best Participant” of the course, a proof of commitment in learning. Also, her group received the “Best Presenter Group” award.
NVSU through this international collaboration has showcased not only its commitment to excellence in education but also its dedication to supporting and proving positive impacts on the environment and society.
