The Nueva Vizcaya State University, represented by its University President, Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale, Jr. and Director for the Office of International Affairs (OIA), Atty. Regine Karla G. Tabas, participated in the 1st National Soil Health Summit held on June 21 to 22, 2023, at Diamond Hotel, Manila.

The summit, with the theme "Securing Food and Nutrition Security through Healthy Soils," was organized by the DA-Bureau of Soil and Water Management (DA-BSWM), DOST Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and House of Representatives - Committee on Agriculture and Food. It aims to convene different institutions to collect and share inputs on soil health-related activities, facilitate collaboration and partnership among stakeholders, and provide policy recommendations for implementing soil health improvement programs.

This event showcased keynote speeches, especially from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who encouraged line agencies to unite on the issue of soil degradation, which significantly affects national food security. Participants had the opportunity to network with other stakeholders and learn about best practices in soil health management.

The summit is a timely and essential event that underscores the need for soil management practices to ensure food and nutrition security. The NVSU's participation in the conference is a testament of its dedication to contributing to the advancement of sustainable agriculture in the Philippines.
