NVSU-CVM Faculty Strengthen Teaching Strategies Through Veterinary Education Workshop at VSU

Dr. Jessica M. Cadoy and Dr. Jennifer T. Albano, faculty members of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) – College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), participated in the workshop titled “Classroom and Clinical Teaching in Veterinary Medical Education” held from March 11 to 14, 2025, at Visayas State University (VSU).

The four-day workshop gathered veterinary educators from various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the Philippines to enhance their instructional practices in classroom, clinical, and online settings. The sessions were facilitated by expert mentors from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, bringing international perspectives and evidence-based teaching approaches to the participants.

The training covered a wide range of topics, including philosophies of teaching and leadership, how people learn, designing learning outcomes, and enhancing course syllabi. It also focused on organizing and optimizing lecture hours, developing instructional materials, and planning effective online courses.

To improve learner engagement and assessment, the workshop included sessions on active and problem-based learning, crafting multiple-choice questions and checklists, and building a feedback culture in clinical teaching. Inclusive teaching practices were also highlighted to promote equitable and student-centered learning.

On the final day, the focus shifted to extension communication—encouraging science-based farming solutions, overcoming misinformation, and building the capacity of participants to become effective trainers. The workshop concluded with the development of action plans for applying the skills gained.

Participation in this workshop reflects NVSU-CVM’s commitment to advancing veterinary education through continuous faculty development, innovative pedagogy, and global collaboration.
