Camaraderie in Its Best Form

Locally known as "Paeng," Severe Tropical Storm Nalgae is a tropical storm that has recently made several landfalls in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Paeng, the twenty-second named tropical storm of the 2022 Pacific typhoon season, was formed on October 26 from an invest located east of the Philippines. On October 27, the NDRRMC alert status was increased to Red Alert (highest level of alert to address an ongoing or in anticipation of an imminent emergency situation).

Its destructive effect has raised Tropical Signal Alerts in the country and brought widespread flooding, landslides, and road damages, which later resulted in power outages, water supply disruptions, communication line disruptions, halted land, sea, and air travel, damaged homes and other properties, including agricultural lands. Approximately 2 million individuals have been impacted to this point, including 101 fatalities, 70 injured, and 66 missing people. (Source: ABS-CBN News)

Typhoon Paeng also impacted the community in the towns of Bambang and Bayombong, resulting in destroyed homes and resource shortages. As initiated by University President Wilfredo A. Dumale, Jr., the Nueva Vizcaya State University organized a donation drive last October 30 to assist the affected families. Through collaborative efforts, the institution asked for the help and support of the students, staff, and non-teaching professionals in the said activity.

Officials from the Planning and Development Office, student-leaders, faculty members, and office personnel from both campuses volunteered to help receive and distribute in-kind, cash, and Gcash assistance. Along with the boxes of dry goods were sacks of rice, fruits and vegetables, and clothing. Cash and wired money were utilized in the purchase of additional goods.

On the second day of the donation drive, all packed relief bags were handed over to the LGU Bayombong, headed by Mayor Antonio G. Bagasao; and LGU Bambang, headed by Mayor Jamie Cuaresma, for distribution. Additionally, Red Cross volunteers offered their help in packing and organizing the remaining items.

Accepting of donations will continue, in preparation for the second round of distribution scheduled on November 2, 2022, Wednesday.

A heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to our donation drive's success. We are truly #oneNVSU, embodying camaraderie under one flag. Maraming salamat at mabuhay po kayong lahat!
