Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) faculty member Ms. Katrine Angela A. Tucay presented a paper on "Community Capability Building: Implementation Challenges and Ways Forward" at the Fourth International Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Nutrition (SAIN4) and the Third International Conference on School-plus-Home Gardens cum Biodiversity Enhancement and Enterprise (SHGBEE3) held from November 19 to 22, 2024, in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The event, jointly organized by the Center of Excellence on Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Nutrition (CE SAIN) of the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), attracted 126 participants, including researchers, educators, farmers, and experts from across the globe. Among these attendees was Ms. Katrine Angela A. Tucay, a faculty member of the College of Business Education at Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), who presented a case study on Community Capability Building: Implementation Challenges and Ways Forward.

Ms. Tucay contributed to the conference's objective by sharing insights from her work on the Community Capability Building Extension Project. This project, dedicated to empowering local communities in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya, aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The case study provided an in-depth look at the challenges and opportunities involved in implementing a capability-building framework that promotes financial literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and sustainable agricultural practices among local youth, mothers, and farmers. Her presentation highlighted practical strategies and ways forward, with an emphasis on fostering local entrepreneurship, enhancing financial stability, and advocating sustainable development within rural communities

The conference has a total of 126 attendees and served as a premier platform for stakeholders from various countries, including the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, India, Australia, and the United States. Focused on promoting sustainability in agricultural practices, the event encouraged the sharing of research findings, case studies, and innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in agriculture. Aiming to foster collaboration and address global issues, the event welcomed professionals dedicated to enhancing sustainable agricultural approaches and advancing holistic development models.

The conference’s rich networking opportunities paved the way for discussions about potential international partnerships and collaborations. These interactions are expected to contribute to NVSU's ongoing efforts to expand its international collaborations and support its internationalization goals. The participation at the CE SAIN – SEARCA Joint International Conference underscores the university’s commitment to sustainable development and international engagement. The knowledge exchanged and the partnerships formed at this conference will serve as a foundation for future initiatives.
