NVSU holds historic Send-Off Ceremony for Faculty Scholars Bound for Thailand, Taiwan

A simple yet meaningful send-off ceremony was conducted for the faculty-scholars of Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) who are set to pursue their graduate studies in Thailand and Taiwan held at the Function Room of the New Administration Building, Aug. 4.

During the event, former international scholars shared their overseas learning experiences, including Dr. Lori Shayne Busa, Director for Research and Development; Dr. William D. Magday Jr., Dean of the College of Teacher Education; and Dr. Jessie Pascual P. Bitog, Dean of the College of Engineering – Bayombong Campus. They spoke about the challenges, lessons, and inspiration they gained from their time in Thailand and Japan.

NVSU President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr. also delivered a heartfelt message, recalling his own journey as a scholar in Japan. He encouraged the faculty-scholars to work together, uphold a culture of unity as one NVSU family, and one day return to serve the nation.

The program likewise highlighted the scholars’ gratitude to the university, led by Dr. Dumale, and to the Office of International Affairs headed by Atty. Karla Regine M. Tabas, in partnership with DOST-STRAND, for opening scholarship opportunities to NVSU faculty members.

This year marks a historic milestone for NVSU, with the largest number of faculty members simultaneously pursuing their PhD degrees abroad.

The new NVSU faculty-scholars are:

  • Krichelle Maureen C. Gaerlan – Doctor of Philosophy in Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure Management, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand
  • Mary Abegail P. Cadang – Doctor of Philosophy in Transportation Engineering, AIT, Thailand
  • Lorna L. Oligo – Doctor of Philosophy in Development and Sustainability, AIT, Thailand

Sending faculty-scholars to prestigious international universities is part of NVSU’s continuing efforts to strengthen its internationalization initiatives. This forms part of the university’s faculty mobility program, aimed at broadening the global perspectives of its educators, enriching their expertise, and further elevating the quality of education at NVSU.
